The next year, in London, Delius attended a concert in which Grieg played his concerto to great acclaim. The success of his senior contemporary's piano concerto apparently tempted him to create his own work of this genre.

  The piano concerto, a much earlier work from , gets a lot more respect -- although even there critics point to rewrites by others that are said to mask Delius' own sophomoric writing for the piano. The concerto is recorded here with the conductor's wife, Betty Humby Beecham, as soloist. Although much earlier than the violin concerto, it 4/5(2).
