Although It's My Life, Baby! was decent mid-'60s electric Chicago blues, coming so soon after Junior Wells' classic Hoodoo Man Blues-- one of the greatest blues LPs ever -- it was something of a disappointment. Wells' chief right-hand man for Hoodoo Man Blues, guitarist Buddy Guy, was still on board for these recordings, but the band arrangements weren't quite as tight.

Junior Wells. It's My Life, Baby! It's My Life Baby. Early In The Morning. Checking On My Baby. Shake It Baby. Look How Baby. It's So Sad To Be Lonely.

Stomach Ache is a great ride. Look How Baby is like beating the strings with a rock. It's My Life Baby is smooth as silk. And Junior is smooth and committed, not trying to be James Brown, but established in his own blues territory. The sound is clean and open like those mid 60s Vanguard records were/5(21).
