Jan 04,  · Whiter Shade sounds brillant, but a bit harsh for my ears, while Salty Dog ist brillant as well, but the sound is warmer. - As a pity, I cannot compare with the original pressings. My AMIGA "Procol Harum" record () is warmer, but less rich in sound.4/5().
  • Shazil says:
A Salty Dog was the last Procol Harum album to feature the original 5-piece line-up. Compared to the previous two, which were very much dominated by Gary Booker's songs and vocals (not a negative thing at all), more space is given to guitarist Robin Trower and organist Matthew Fisher/5().

This expanded deluxe edition of “A Salty Dog” also includes a lavishly illustrated booklet that fully restores the original album artwork and features a new essay by Procol Harum biographer Henry Scott-Irvine. Track Listing: A SALTY DOG: REMASTERED A SALTY DOG THE MILK OF HUMAN KINDNESS TOO MUCH BETWEEN US THE DEVIL CAME FROM KANSAS BOREDOM.

Content. A Salty Dog has an ostensibly nautical theme, as indicated by its cover (a pastiche of the famous Player's Navy Cut cigarette pack). Interspersed with straight rock, blues and pop items, A Salty Dog showed a slight change of direction from its predecessors, being thematically less title track itself was the first Procol track to use an orchestra, as would be referred to in.

My introduction to Procol Harum wasn't "A Whiter Shade Of Pale", but my dad's vinyl copy of In Concert With The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Therefore I've known this album's "A Salty Dog" and "All This And More" for years. The studio versions really aren't that different as they were already recorded with an orchestra.
